Receiving the Eucharist
The Eucharist is celebrated weekly with our entire community as a core expression of our Catholic faith. For those who are homebound or hospitalized, trained lay ministers bring Communion to them. To request this service or to volunteer, please contact Margaret Wager at 937-253-5171 x113. Or if you are a St. Albert parishioner, please contact Kristi Gaston at 937-281-0048.
Low-Gluten Hosts
Low-gluten hosts are available for those with celiac disease. Please speak with an Usher or Greeter before Mass for instructions on how to receive.
Children
First Eucharist is typically celebrated in 2nd grade, with parents playing a key role in preparation. Contact Tara Schumaker at tschumaker@mgparish.org for more information. See here for more information.
Adults
Adults usually receive their First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil through the OCIA process, often alongside Confirmation. Contact Joe Ollier at jollier@mgparish.org to learn more.
Taking Communion to the Homebound
Since they carry the body of our Lord, pyxes should be treated like the sacred vessels at the altar: they should be clean and dry before the Host is placed inside. Once the consecrated Host is removed, a bit of water should be carefully poured into the pyx, swirled about to dissolve and particles of the consecrated Host and then poured into a small cup to be consumed. This is what the priest and deacon do at the end of Communion and it's called "purifying the vessels." Ideally, this rinse is done at least once and then the pyx may be washed and dried and it is ready to receive a new Host at the next Mass.
