Mental Wellness Ministry

Please come to our next monthly meeting to participate in planning this new ministry in our family of parishes that is supported by the Archdiocese.

Mother of God Mental Wellness Ministry Meeting

Thursday, July 23 at 7:00 PM in the St. Charles Church Borromeo Room

All are welcome to learn about this ministry, help with finding out about the needs of our family of parishes, and plan future activities that raise mental wellness awareness and offer emotional and spiritual support. Questions? Please email Carolyn at MGFPmentalwellness@gmail.com.

Our meetings are usually held on the 4th Thursday of every month, unless we plan differently due to holidays or events.

We focus on awareness, education, and support.

For more information, contact Lisa Averion at laverion@catholicaoc.org.

July Mental Wellness Moment
By the Mother of God Mental Wellness Ministry

The Mother of God Mental Wellness Ministry is pleased to announce the continuation of our Monthly Mental Wellness Moment with resources picked based upon the results of the survey topics that you, the parishioners, have completed.

St. Dymphna’s Bookshelf (monthly book series): We are pleased to offer Litanies of the Heart : Relieving Post Traumatic Stress and Calming Anxiety Through Healing Our Parts by Gerry Ken Crete.  If you have experienced severe trauma: sexual abuse, military trauma, torture, the loss of a loved one, spiritual abuse, verbal humiliation, neglect, or emotional abandonment, then this book may provide a way to begin the healing process and grow in resilience.  Copies are available at Amazon, Walmart, St. Marks Bookshop in Centerville, and many other places for about $16.

Prayerful Place: Local parks are beautiful places to pray during the warmer months and nature has been shown to reduce stress. Some nearby parks are Cox Arboretum, Hills and Dales, Kettring Central Park, Delco Park, and Grant Park.

Prayer Opportunity: Rosary Walk at Ascension Church parking lot Tuesdays at 7:00 PM through Sept. 22

Local or Online Resources: If you are looking for local mental health providers that align with Catholic teachings, please see catholictherapists.com to search for a Dayton/Cincinnati/Columbus metropolitan area list. Some offer telehealth appointments. Catholiccounselors.com also has lists of mental health providers that are searchable by area.

Retreat: Good Grief is offered by the Jesuit Spiritual Center on Aug. 14 and/or 15 for those who have lost or will lose a loved one soon. See information and registration at jesuitspiritualcenter.com/iwr.
